Mayor’s Monthly Update – June 2025

With the first half of the year now behind us, it’s time to embrace everything summer has to offer. As a friend of mine likes to say, “It’s less than six months to New Year’s Day!”

Lashburn Day 2025

This year’s Lashburn Day was a tremendous success! We were fortunate to enjoy reasonable weather, with the rain holding off for most of the day. Thank you to everyone who participated—whether by hosting a booth, organizing activities, or assisting at our community facilities. Your dedication made the day special for everyone.

Summer Safety

With school now out, our parks, playgrounds, and streets are filled with children enjoying their summer break. Please drive with extra caution and stay alert for young cyclists and pedestrians who may be less aware of traffic.

Congratulations to the Class of 2025!

A heartfelt congratulations to this year’s graduates. The ceremony was well attended and marked an important milestone for our graduates as they take the next step in their lifelong learning journey. We are proud of you!

Spotlight on the Lashburn Museum

I recently had the pleasure of touring the Lashburn Museum. A big thank you to Lewis and the team for their exceptional work in updating exhibits, preserving local history, and creating a welcoming space for visitors. I encourage everyone to stop in and explore this fantastic community asset.

Council & Infrastructure Updates

Road Improvements

Street maintenance remains a priority. Our town crew is actively working on pothole repairs and road upgrades. Resurfacing of the 200 block of 1st Street is scheduled using a mix-in-place SP90 and oil surfacing treatment, pending contractor availability.

Crack Sealing

Crack filling along the service road has been completed. Thank you for your patience during the detours and safety precautions.

SaskWater Regional Pipeline

Council recently received a briefing from SaskWater on the updated economics of the regional pipeline project. Potable water usage is currently below projections, which has implications for the capital payout timeline. We are exploring options to increase usage along the line to help shorten the cost recovery period.

Parks Maintenance

Recent rainfall has accelerated grass growth in our green spaces. Despite the addition of summer staff, maintenance has been challenging in some areas. We appreciate your patience as we continue working to catch up.

Daycare Centre Update

Council is actively reviewing the operational aspects of the new daycare centre, with a focus on staffing and enrollment. These discussions are ongoing, and updates will be shared as plans are finalized. Construction work is temporarily paused as we await contractor availability. We thank the community for its patience as we move toward opening this vital service.

Supporting Community Buildings through Asset Management

Council is developing strategies to support our community building boards with long-term asset management planning. These facilities are essential to community life, and we aim to ensure they are maintained responsibly and sustainably.

We are considering the introduction of practical guidelines to support day-to-day operations and early identification of financial or maintenance challenges. Proactive planning will help us avoid larger issues down the road and ensure our infrastructure remains safe, functional, and accessible for the future.

This initiative will become a cornerstone of Council’s long-term approach, and we look forward to working closely with all community boards in the months ahead.

As always, we welcome your feedback and input. Your voice helps guide our work and shape the future of Lashburn.

Wishing you all a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable summer!

Warm regards,

Jim Krissa
